Some nice words on the Fitz & the Tantrums show…
Thanks to everyone for coming out to Brighton Music Hall and Ryles in Cambridge this past weekend!! Both shows were great and we had a helluva time. Check out some nice reviews from the local press on the Fitz show, in case you missed it…
From the Boston Herald:
Local band Jordan Valentine & the Sunday Saints proved the perfect complement, with a raunchier take on vintage soul. The Etta James of the Boston underground, Valentine has a brassy stage personality to match her powerful voice, and her years as a vinyl collector play into her original tunes. Her band gets a mighty backbeat from ex-Prime Movers drummer Dennis McCarthy, and when they tear into a ’60s classic such as Little Milton’s “Grits Ain’t Groceries,” it’s no time to stand still.
From the Boston Globe:
Homegrown openers Jordan Valentine & the Sunday Saints played more traditional throwback soul along the lines of early-’70s Stax when it was right on the verge of funk. Valentine was an endearing (and sometimes endearingly dorky) soul shouter with a fire inside, and her band was wickedly tight.
